Copperas Cove city council place 5 election headed for runoff

Dale Treadway and Timothy Traeger will be headed to a runoff election for Copperas Cove city council Place 5.

A total of 1,790 decided the candidates for the runoff. There were also a total of 319 undervotes who did not select a candidate on the ballot.

Treadway received 31.73 percent, or 568 votes, and Traeger received 28.48 percent, or 491 votes. James “Coach” Wilson received 478 votes (26.7 percent) and John “Nick” Valentine III received 253 votes (14.13 percent).

According to Copperas Cove city charter, a winning candidate must receive a minimum of 50 percent-plus one of the votes.

A runoff will be called by the council after the vote canvassing at a future city council meeting.

The city council called the special election for Place 5, after the resignation of Manuel Montanez in January.

The term of office for Place 5 expires in November 2025.
