Locals who have crossed the bridge behind Fester’s House at Copperas Cove City Park will see not one, but two new bridges in the future at City Park.
At Tuesday evening’s Copperas city council meeting, the council approved a professional services agreement with York Bridge Concepts in the amount of $418,153.
Park and Recreation Director Jeff Stoddard told the council that one bridge will have a 66-foot span and the second bridge will have a 33-foot span.
The project will be to replace the current bridge and install a second bridge, with the two bridges connected with a walking path.
The Lutz, Florida-based company has completed a number of bridge projects that are similar to what will be constructed in City Park.
York Bridge Concepts has built pedestrian bridges for both public parks and private businesses across the country.
The project is part of the city’s Capital Improvement Plan and will be funded with some of the city’s 2024 certificate of obligation bond funds.
As per the bidding information, the new bridges will be similar in design to the existing bridge that is newer and runs parallel to Avenue B.
