The Texas Department of Transportation announced on Tuesday morning that construction will begin on a long-awaited roadway that will provide access from State Highway 9 to Business 190.
TxDOT reps announced that starting Monday, July 8, TxDOT and its contractor will begin the construction of a new U-Turn within the SH 9 and Business 190 intersection on the east side of Copperas Cove.
The project is scheduled to complete by the end of the year, weather permitting.
This U-turn, once completed, will allow those heading east on SH9 to exit and make a turn onto West Business 190.
After the U-turn, drivers will be able to access Robert Griffin III Boulevard and those businesses along that roadway, particularly H-E-B.
Currently, residents and others on the northside of town have two choices to access businesses on the east side of Copperas Cove: drive through the Copperas Cove downtown or continue east on State Highway 9 all the way to Clarke Road, then make a U-turn there and head east to Copperas Cove.
The approximately $1.2 million dollar project has been contracted to Knife River Corp. – South.
