A number of local fee and rate changes are now in effect as of Tuesday, Oct. 1 for the City of Copperas Cove.

In August, the Copperas Cove city council and city administration discussed the proposed changes, which include changes to the city water and sewer rates.

City residential utility customers will now be paying a total of $81.52 monthly for base rate services to include water and sewer, solid waste and drainage. That’s an increase of $4.87 per month.

The base rate for a residential water meter has gone from $21.80 per month to $26.05 per month. The base rate for residential sewer services has gone from $20.60 per month to $21.22 per month.

The drainage monthly rate is unchanged, at $9, as Is the monthly solid waste collection rate of $25.25.

Utility customers are also seeing increased rates for water usage and the sewer volumetric rates.

With the tiered water usage rates, those who use less than 5,000 gallons per month will be seeing a lower fee increase than those who use more water.

For example, the rate for 0 to 5,000 gallons of water is going up by 85 cents per 1,000 gallons, from $4.36 to 5.21. However, those who use 5,001-10,000 gallons of water per month will see an increase of $1.02 per 1,000 gallons, from $5.23 to $6.25. Likewise, residential water customers who use 10,001 gallons or more will be paying $1.22 more per 1,000 gallons, from $6.28 to $7.50 per 1,000 gallons.

Sprinkler, commercial, bulk water, and contractor rates have gone up, as have commercial collection rates, and the rates per ton for disposal for residential customers who bring solid waste to the center.
