Dozens of health professionals got to practice and improve their CPR training at the American Heart Association’s Resuscitation Quality Improvement Program implementation event held Thursday morning at Coryell Memorial Healthcare System in Gatesville.
Coryell Memorial Healthcare System will be the first in the Central Texas area to implement this program, beating out Baylor Scott & White, Providence Health and Seton, Fosters said. Over 100 hospitals across the United States, United Kingdom and Australia have already implemented the RQI program, with the Veterans Administration being the largest healthcare system with over 150 hospitals, according to Marion Young, business development marketer for Laerdal, the company which manufactures the CPR dummies and the course materials at its Gatesville location.
Coryell Memorial Healthcare System consists of a 25-bed hospital, a 90-bed nursing home/rehabilitation center, a 22-bed independent living apartments, an 18-bed assisted living and a 28 provider clinic as well as a wound care clinic and a dialysis clinic. There is also an EMS service and a Home health service. In total, more than 350 employees will be recertified using the RQI program at a cost of $50 per employee, Foster said.
