With one year of service under their belts, the members of the Centex Exchange Club of Copperas Cove celebrated their first year as a chartered club.
On Wednesday evening, the club gathered at Giovanni’s and distributed checks to several local organizations.
The club presented a check for $500 to Inez Faison, for the Exchange Sunshine Home. The Sunshine Home is an income-based apartment complex for senior citizens in Copperas Cove. The complex is supported by all three Exchange Clubs in Copperas Cove.
Another $500 donation was presented to John Robertson, with Star Group-Veterans Helping Veterans.
A third donation for the Coryell County Rainbow Room, will be forthcoming at a future meeting.
Before having a cake – cut by representatives of all three Exchange Clubs – President Sharon Tabor announced the Members of the Year for 2023-2024. Usually, Exchange Clubs will name one of its members for the honor.
“We get the privilege of doing this once a year, and I'll be honest, we are a brand-new club with a lot of new Exchangites. And it was tough,” Tabor said. “There were probably 10 people I would have given this award to. I did select two this year because I had a hard time picking.”
Both Sherry Hoffpauir and Myrna Malic-Banzon were given the award, for all the ways they helped contribute to the club during its first year.
The club also welcomed several new members on Wednesday evening, and their membership stands at 37.
Their next event is a flapjack fundraiser at Applebee’s on Saturday, June 8, from 8-10 a.m. Tickets are $12 and include breakfast of pancakes, eggs, along with coffee, water, and juice.
