The more than 8,000 students in the Copperas Cove Independent School District could be receiving free breakfast starting in the 2019-2020 school year.
During tonight’s meeting of the CCISD board of trustees, student meal prices for the 2019-2020 will be up for approval this evening, as is the approval of district-wide universal breakfast.
The district’s child nutrition director is proposing that the meal prices stay the same, and that CCISD provide free breakfast to every student, with the district continuing to use students' eligibility status for its reimbursement. An estimated $86,920 in the child nutrition fund would be used to make this option available.
Attendance rezoning for Skyline Flats is also one of the items up for a decision tonight by the school board, with the board having received a presentation on the proposed rezoning during Monday’s workshop.
Due to increased and anticipated continued growth on the north side of the city, CCISD administration is proposing rezoning for the area south of F.M. 1113, known as Skyline Flats, presently zoned for Williams/Ledger Elementary and S.C. Lee Junior High. The proposed changes will be to Fairview/Miss Jewell Elementary and Copperas Cove Junior High starting with the 2019-2020 school year.
According to documentation posted on the district website, the district will have specific terms for students being “grandfathered” in to attend campuses in the current zoning. Those students who currently attend Williams/Ledger and S.C. Lee may continue at those campuses, although parents will need to complete a transfer form for their students to remain but must provide their own transportation for their students. Incoming kindergarten students will attend the rezoned campus, but if they presently have a sibling at Williams/Ledger, their parents may apply for a transfer for them to attend the same campus as their sibling.
The board will also consider and take action on principals for Copperas Cove High School, Crossroads High School, Clements/Parsons Elementary, and Fairview/Jewell Elementary school this evening
A technology purchase for notebooks at $68,997.60 along with charging carts for $4,079.60 will be up for a vote by the board this evening.
Several out of state trips are up for approval this evening, for the HOSA International Conference in Orlando, Fla., June 18 – 23; Military Child Education Coalition National Training Seminar in Washington, D.C., July 23-25.
An agreement with the Killeen Armed Services YMCA for the 2019-2020 school year, as well as an agreement with a Memorandum of Understanding between CCISD and Magellan Healthcare, Inc.
The meeting will begin at 6:30 p.m. in the administration board room, located at 408 S. Main St.
