By LYNETTE SOWELL
The Texas state comptroller’s office has released its 2013 Financial Allocation Study for Texas, or FAST, which compares school district resources and allocations to measured student academic progress. This annual study came about when in 2009, the Texas legislature directed the state’s comptroller’s office to study school districts and determine which districts used their resources to contribute to student’s achievement in an efficient manner. School districts as well as individual campuses were given an overall star rating ranging from one to five stars, with five stars noting “success in combining cost-effective spending with the achievement of measurable student academic progress.”
