Recycling Coordinator puts own twist on Ice Bucket Challenge
By LYNETTE SOWELL
Silvia Rhoads, like many people, was nominated for the ice bucket challenge by a friend and wanted to participate, but took part in the challenge in her own way. Rhoads decided instead of using a bucket of water from the tap or garden hose, then loading it up with ice and having someone pour it over her head, she’d find a better use for that much water. “Because of what I do, and knowing the shortage of water we face, I cannot in good conscience waste valuable drinking water,” Rhoads announced during minute-and-a-half video clip. “So, I have decided to complete the challenge by number one, showing that I’ve made a donation to the ALS organziation in the aomount of $50, and two, I’m donating 10 cases of water to our local emergency shelter, Cove House.”
