5th annual Howl-O-Ween Puppy Pawlooza set for Saturday in Copperas Cove

Look for dogs to take a splash in Copperas Cove’s City Park Pool, find their way through an obstacle course, howl for prizes and more all while dressed in costume on Saturday.

The Copperas Cove Five Hills royalty has partnered with the City of Copperas Cove Parks and Recreation Department to host the 5th Annual Howl-O-Ween Puppy Pawlooza that gets under way at 9 a.m. on Saturday, Oct 26 with a 1k run/walk.

There is no cost to the event although participants are asked to bring pet food, cat litter and other items that will be donated to the Copperas Cove Animal Control Facility.

This is the third year for Preteen Miss Five Hills Kaydence Roberts to chair the event. Kindness to Animals is Roberts’ platform of service during her year-long reign.

“I truly love animals. Even though I am allergic to them, that doesn’t stop me from loving them and wanting them to have a happy life,” Roberts said.  “Just right here in Copperas Cove, our city animal shelter took in 1,720 animals last year and fewer than half, only 649 of those animals, were adopted.  That is where I come in. I cannot save all the animals, but I certainly can do everything in my power to save some of them.”

The walk will have three puppy rest stops along the route for both pets and their owners to grab a drink and enjoy some festivities. The rest stops will compete for awards based on their creative themes and benefits to walk participants.

Various adoption groups will have animals available at the event which includes both a pet and owner howling contest, costume contest, a dog swim in City Park Pool, obstacle course and more.  This year, the Miss Five Hills Scholarship Program purchased a new obstacle course for the event that includes jumping hoops, weaving poles, larger tunnel, climbing ramp and a sit and stay area. All dogs going through the obstacle course will receive a canine bandana.

Copperas Cove Walmart is the corporate sponsor of the event.  Starbucks, Raisin’ Cane’s and many businesses and school groups have donated toward the event. Prizes will be awarded to the group that brings in the most donations for the animal shelter. The Scotty Ray Band will provide live music throughout the event.
