All three fire stations in Copperas Cove will now have security cameras, thanks to a donation of the brand-new digital monitoring equipment given to the fire department by the Citizens Fire and Public Safety Volunteers Association, Inc. Members of the group presented the monitors and multi-camera security systems to Chief Michael Neujahr and Deputy Chief Gary Young on Monday. “We had the funds to do this, and we recently talked to the fire department to get an idea of something they needed,” said the group’s president, James Stockman. The Central Fire Station, station number one, will now have a 28-inch monitor that displays video being digitally recorded by eight cameras. Stations two and three will both have smaller monitors and four cameras. “The recorder has 1 terabyte of storage and the cameras record for 30 days at a time,” Stockman said. “The storage will hold plenty of recordings. They can connect their smart phones to the cameras too.” Stockman’s wife, Cathy, said they shopped around for the best deal on the HD quality security cameras. All three systems cost around $1,800 total, and will be just one way the deparmtent will implement security for its buildings, equipment and personnel. The fire department is currently working on its Christmas wish list for the group, Cathy added. The Citizens Fire and Public Safety Volunteers Association recently donated three gas grills to the fire department, so each station can now cook out during the workers’ long shifts. They will continue to keep busy providing support within the community, by working at two water points for tomorrow’s Summer Run to Fun 5K. Then in July, the group will be holding a picnic at the central fire station for the fire personnel.
