Mae Stevens Early Learning Academy Pre-kindergarten Student Tatum Bryant reated his favorite storybook characters, Thomas the Train and Friends, from foil by wadding the usual art medium and then forming it into the figures to include event connectors for the train cars. The project was on display at an art gallery walk at the school.

Pre-K students create art from unexpected media

By WENDY SLEDD

Did you ever imagine Thomas the Train and his friends made from foil? How about a dog or a big fish and a little fish? The toddlers at Mae Stevens Early Learning Academy may be little in stature, but their imaginations are big when it comes to creating art. The Pre-K students recently hosted an art gallery walk to display their artwork which included foil creations of all kinds of creatures, both imaginary and real. The wadded balls of foil were formed to resemble animals, cartoon characters, mammals, houses, weather items, and more. Students also viewed a Vincente van Gough painting and then duplicated it with their tiny fingers to make it closely resemble the original masterpiece. The hallways of Mae Stevens remain covered in the works of art and are open to public viewing.
