The Noon Exchange Club of Copperas Cove met on August 28 at Lil Tex Restaurant. President Dennis Ayres called the meeting to order. Club Member Bill Minton offered the invocation and Marylyn Bell led the Pledge of Allegiance. Board Member Norma Crawford announced birthdays and anniversaries. During the announcements, Club President Dennis Ayres gave an update on the Copperas Cove High School Excel Club. Currently the Noon Exchange Club of Copperas Cove serves as the sponsor for the Excel Club. Excel Club Advisor Charles Lyons, Vice President of Awards Mike Blount, and President Dennis Ayres recruited 42 students during the Copperas Cove High School registration. Elections for new Excel officers and induction for new Excel members will take place during the upcoming weeks. Next, Cove House Executive Director Brian Hawkins thanked the Noon Exchange Club of Copperas Cove for sponsoring the 13th annual Cove House Classic Bike Tour fund raiser that took place August 15. Or, there’s the granddaddy of all homecoming mums, the sweetheart mum, with a triple flower base and blue and gold streamers about four feet long. “Leopard print ribbon is popular now,” Rivers said. “Pink ribbons too.” One customer has ordered a pink mum for homecoming this year, in recognition of breast cancer awareness, Rivers said. Some customers save their mums from previous years, then take their mums back to The Daisy for freshening up and adding more school spirit items. No matter the style or size of a mum, Rivers said the idea behind the mum comes down to one thing. “It’s all about school spirit,” she said.
