Students that attend Crossroads High School are there by choice. For various reasons, the students said they chose to attend the alternative school but did not realize how much they were leaving behind outside of the classroom. Following the recommendation of the principal, a handful of students have come together to form the school’s first community council. “We are trying to get more mainstream,” said the new principal at the alternative school, Miguel Timarky, who was the assistant principal at Copperas Cove High School before coming to Crossroads. “All of these students are at-risk and this gives them some other things to get involved in.” Students said Timarky called everyone into the library on the first day of school and encouraged all of the students to join a student council and be the voice of the students.
