It’s beginning to sound a lot like Christmas around the City of Copperas Cove.
The Copperas Cove High School Bands will present their annual Christmas Concert on Tuesday, December 8 at 7 p.m. at the Lea Ledger Auditorium. Performing groups include the Concert Band, Symphonic Band and Wind Ensemble, CCISD Director of Bands Andrew Nixon said.
“The Christmas Concert has always been my favorite band concert of the year,” Nixon said. “I always look forward to seeing the great community support in the audience. The music and atmosphere is a wonderful way to kick off the holiday season.”
The program features various arrangements of familiar carols and songs including Lullaby Carols, Bell Carol Fantasy, Holiday Portraits and Country Cookin’ Christmas. The audience will also hear some favorite holiday classics including Twas the Night Before Christmas, Sleigh Ride and the Wind Ensemble’s traditional presentation of Mannheim Steamroller’s arrangement of Stille Nacht. Symphonic Band Director Tony Chapa will be waiting to hear one song in particular.
“The Symphonic Band is going to bring back my favorite version of Twas The Night Before Christmas,” Chapa said. This year it will be narrated by Mr. Daniel Montgomery, our CCHS Choir Director.”
The Lea Ledger Auditorium will be beautifully decorated in red and green with strings of lights and garland to compliment the festive music. The Lea Ledger Auditorium technical crew, supervised by Thomas Kelley, will also add special lighting and stage effects to enhance the performance.
The Christmas concert will be a debut for Garrett Tagliabue, CCHS Concert Band Director.
“I’m excited to conduct my first concert with the high school Concert Band,” he said. “The music selections for the Christmas season are enjoyable for the students as well as the audience.”
The CCHS Band and Guard Booster Club will be sponsoring a Gift Basket fundraiser which will be held during the intermissions. The concert will be followed by a reception in the band hall. Orders for CD’s of the concert will be available in the lobby courtesy of “The Band Room.” The Lea Ledger Auditorium is located at 400 S. 25th Street in Copperas Cove. This concert is free and open to the public.
