Filing for the Copperas Cove city council Place 3 special election ended on Wednesday, with Shawn Alzona, Scott Remalia, and William Gregory Smith being the three who filed to run.
They are vying to fill the remaining year for the Place 3 term of office.
On Thursday morning, the three candidates gathered in the city secretary’s office at Copperas Cove City Hall to draw for the order on the ballot.
Past studies have shown that often the individual listed first on the ballot for a race has better odds than others in the order.
William Gregory Smith drew the number 1 and will be listed on the ballot first, with Scott Remalia drawing the number 2, and Shawn Alzona drawing number 3.
After the drawing, the men shook hands in the parking lot and wished each other well.
For the other city council races, Joann Courtland is running unopposed for Place 1; Fred Chavez is running unopposed for Place 2; and in the mayoral race, Dan Yancey will be on the ballot with Devin Meadows as a write-in candidate.
Early voting will begin on Monday, Oct. 18 and go through Friday, Oct. 29.
Also on the Nov. 2 ballot will be the special bond election for a proposed animal shelter, as well as amendments to the city’s charter.
