Copperas Cove city council candidate forum set for Oct. 7

The Copperas Cove Chamber of Commerce is hosting a candidate forum on Thursday, Oct. 7, starting at 5:30 p.m. until 8 p.m., at the Copperas Cove city council chambers, located in the city’s Technology Center, at 508 S. 2nd St.
Candidates running for City Council Place 3 and mayor will be on hand and will answer a variety of questions, as well as meet with voters.
Those who have questions for the candidates may submit them to activities@copperascove.com prior to Thursday’s forum.
The race for Place 3 is a three-way race, with Shawn Alzona, Scott Remalia, and William Gregory Smith to be on the ballot.
The three are vying to fill the remaining year for the Place 3 term of office, which will expire in November 2022.
Place 3 councilmember and mayor pro tem Dan Yancey is running for mayor, and Devin Meadows is the write-in candidate for mayor.
Places 1 and 2 are up for election, with Place 1 incumbent Joann Courtland and Place 2 incumbent Fred Chavez running unopposed.
Early voting begins on Monday, Oct. 18 and goes through Friday, Oct. 29. Also on the Nov. 2 ballot will be the special bond election for a proposed animal shelter, as well as 13 proposed amendments to the city’s charter.
