Hart wins runoff election for Copperas Cove city council Place 6

Vonya Hart will be the next member of the Copperas Cove city council after winning today’s runoff election.
Polls closed at 7 p.m., with the results showing that Hart received a total of 594 votes, or 57.28 percent. Terri Deans received 443 votes, or 42.72 percent.
On election day, a total of 238 voters cast ballots. A total of 751 Copperas Cove voters cast ballots during last week’s early voting period.
Hart and Deans were the top two vote-getters in a four-way race for Place 6 in the Nov. 3 general election. Hart received 2262 votes, or 26 percent, and Deans received 3,299, or 38 percent. A total of 9,898 Copperas Cove voters cast ballots for the Place 6 election on Nov. 3, in Coryell and Lampasas County.
Hart will be sworn in during a future Copperas Cove city council meeting after the council canvasses tonight’s election results during a special meeting on Dec. 15.
Hart will join three other women on the dais, a first for Copperas Cove, with Joann Courtland in Place 1, Dianne Yoho Campbell in Place 5, and Bradi Diaz as mayor.
