Think Positive
Last week, I shared coach Tracy Welch has been emphasizing attitude is everything throughout the off-season. The emphasis on having a positive attitude and working for goals is a theme talked about daily with the Dawgs. Why emphasize the value of having a positive attitude?
Attitude gives us the power to be who we want to become, and determines who others think we are. Who we are is not determined by how we look, where we live, or who our parents were. Who we are is a function of specific choices we have made over a lifetime. In the Bible we are taught, “As a man thinks in his heart, so is he” (Proverbs 23:7). We are what we think we are because of how we think and act.
An absolutely essential ingredient for success is a positive self-image. People recognize us on the basis of the law of attraction. How we act and think will attract corresponding conditions. If we have a negative self-image, we attract negative results. If our self-image is positive, we attract positive results. Does this appear simplistic? Research clearly demonstrates this thought to be absolutely true.
This way of thinking is called self-fulfilling prophecy, coined by Merton in 1948, meaning that students perform in ways in which teachers expect? Players perform much better when their coaches believe in them. Coaches lead players to be successful but some players do not believe they can be successful.
I have had players full of ability never reach their potential because of their lack of confidence. On the other hand I have known players to become champions with limited abilities. Attitude makes the difference.
Overcoming adversities and temporary defeats make individuals and teams stronger. When you reach your goal you will have accomplished much more than you set out to do. While some people (Texas Football Magazine predictors) do not believe in the ‘Dawgs, we will succeed because of our can do attitude. Winning is associated with attitude and talent. Like Coach Tracy Welch says, “Attitude is everything!”
Thought of the week, “A positive attitude causes a chain reaction of positive thoughts, events and outcomes. It is a catalyst and it sparks extraordinary results.” Wade Boggs
