Some might think that the focus of our city’s spending and economic efforts have been a bit off-balance in recent years. Whether you believe that’s true or not, most would agree that a look around at our facilities, streets, parks and more shows they need some TLC and wonder where the money will come to take care of those things.
Here’s a possible answer that will be presented to the city council tonight. In November, the voters (that’s US!) could get to decide if the Copperas Cove Economic Development Corporation will continue to get half a cent of the city’s sales tax revenue. But first, the council must approve it.
Here’s how that particular money thing works now: Of the 8.25 cents per dollar collected in sales tax in our city, Copperas Cove gets two cents. One cent goes to the City of Copperas Cove and the other cent is divided between Coryell County and the Copperas Cove Economic Development Corporation. Still following me? I’m not a fan of division, but this is simple stuff.
