Listen up

We are already well into the second six weeks of school, and teachers everywhere are already hard at work not only teaching their students the three Rs and more, but also teaching them to listen. Follow directions, when and how to write their name on the paper, listen to announcements such as instructions for storing supplies, when lunch happens, where to line up for the bus. Chances are, if students miss any of that, they weren’t listening. The word listen has an easy definition: “to make an effort to hear something, to pay attention, to heed.”
