A box of new crayons

Temperatures tell us it’s still summer, but for weeks now the stores have reminded us that school days are returning. You can’t go shopping without seeing mammoth stacks of paper and notebooks and bins of the other ten dozen items that the store marketers and school officials tell us the kids will need. For some reason this year, all fifth graders must have a yellow pocket folder with brads. That item is hard to be found, I’ve heard, from Lampasas to Harker Heights. There is a general parental outcry because of that folder’s reported scarcity.
