Over the weekend, COVID-19 cases in the state of Texas surpassed the 900,000 mark, climbing to 904,855 as of Sunday afternoon. Active cases number an estimated 102,769, with 18,077 fatalities.

Hospitalizations for COVID-19 statewide numbered 10.5 percent of those hospitalized in Texas, at 5,691.

Locally, in Trauma Service Region L, the number of lab-confirmed COVID-19 patients hospitalized increased to 55 at facilities in Bell, Coryell, Lampasas, Hamilton, Mills, and Milam Counties, making up 4.55 percent of area hospitalizations.

The seven-day positivity rate was 8.53 percent on Sunday, which is the seven-day statewide average of those tested who receive positive results for COVID-19.

The city of Copperas Cove issued its weekly update for COVID-19 cases on Monday Nov. 2, with a cumulative case count of 465 to include 72 active cases within the city limits.

Compared to the prior week’s report, the total case count is up by 25, yet the active case count is up by just two cases, with a total of 387 cases now recovered.

Active cases in Copperas Cove numbered 58 on Oct. 5, but increased into the 80s during the month and have hovered in the low 70s the last part of October.

Among the newest cases added to the list is a woman in her 40s, with a report date of nearly three weeks ago, Oct. 13. The lag in reporting time is due to the lag in reporting from Texas Department of State Health Services. The newest cases range in report dates from Oct. 13 through Oct. 28.

The fatality count has also officially doubled in Copperas Cove, and now stands at six, up from three. However, the three additional deaths reported occurred back in August, when on Aug. 16 a Copperas Cove woman in her 50s passed away, followed by a male in his 70s on Aug. 20, and then another male in his 70s, on Aug. 21.

In Coryell County, the total number of COVID-19 cases climbed to 858, up 31 from the 827 as of last Friday. That’s a total of 61 new cases since Oct. 23. Active cases are now at 162, also up from last Friday’s 131.

The majority of the new cases listed in the new Coryell County report have a much younger demographic as of Oct. 30, to include four females between the ages of 10-19, along with two men and two women in their 40s, and a woman in her 60s.
