Copperas Cove ISD announces promotion of Johnson, strategic staff changes

Special to the Leader-Press

Around 5 p.m. on Wednesday, February 26, the Copperas Cove Independent School District issued the following media release:

The Copperas Cove Independent School District is currently working to better align its programs and staff to fulfill the district's mission of building a foundation of excellence and a future of success for all students. As part of this ongoing effort, the district has announced multiple key staff changes that reflect the district's commitment to excellence and future growth.

We are excited to announce that Head Football Coach Tony Johnson will transition into the role of Assistant Athletic Director.

This new role will build on Coach Johnson's extensive experience and leadership, allowing him to continue to grow in his career, while enhancing the district's athletic programs.

Coach Johnson has made significant contributions over the past three years, and CCISD deeply appreciates his dedication to our students and programs. We look forward to his continued service and leadership.

CCISD will immediately launch a search for its next Head Football Coach/Boys Athletic Director and will move swiftly to fill the role. The district understands the urgency of this posting and is committed to acting as expeditiously as possible to ensure a smooth transition for the program and provide the greatest benefit to students.

To provide stability to the football program during this time, Adrian Miller will serve as the Interim Head Football Coach until the position is filled.

We have full confidence in Coach Miller’s leadership and ability to guide our football team in the interim.

As part of the district's ongoing commitment to strengthening our athletic programs, Cari Lowery will assume the role of Girls Athletic Director.

This strategic move acknowledges the need for enhanced attention to ensure our female student-athletes receive the support and resources needed to excel in UIL Athletics.

These changes are being made with fiscal responsibility in mind. CCISD remains committed to operating within the currently-budgeted staffing allotments, a practice that will continue moving forward.

“We are confident that these changes will lead to continued success for all student-athletes in Copperas Cove ISD,” said Superintendent Dr. Brent Hawkins. “We remain dedicated to maintaining our high standards of excellence and look forward to the continued development of our programs under the leadership of these outstanding coaches.”
